Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Khadra!

Khadra Ahmed

I am from Saint Paul, Minnesota and currently I am a student at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John€™s University in Central Minnesota. I am studying health communication and sociology and am hoping to graduate this coming spring.

I am the marketing and communication intern this summer at WellShare. I am currently working on the 2017 annual report, drafting web content, and updating new and old handouts. I have had the wonderful experience of attending the Matter of Balance and Cooking Matters classes in session this summer.

WellShare International HQ, Minneapolis, MN

I enjoy photography, reading, traveling and being a foodie. My bucket list includes plans to visitmore than 50countries. I enjoy learning about many cultures and studying all sorts of languages.

I am very passionate about improving health access for low-income, underserved and minority communities. At WellShare, I am able to learn more about how to connect the community with culturally appropriate services that are sustainable and long-term.

The inviting community and the strong work ethic are two of my favorite aspects of interning at WellShare. The passion everyone has for the work they do is wonderful and makes it a delightful experience to learn from.

€œCommunity work is vital and important in the realm of health education. WellShare€™s community health worker model allows for health resources to be delivered with culturally competent care. To me, that is very important and I am happy to be interning at WellShare!€
