Minnesota is home to the largest Somali population in the United States and the estimated smoking prevalence for Somali adults is higher than estimates for Minnesotan adults. Tobacco use among women is also stigmatized in the Somali community. Much like other communities, Somalis face plenty of barriers while attempting to quit and need extra attention when it comes to clinician guidance and smoking cessation. This video features the EASFP Program Manager, an MDH representative, a Somali Community Health Worker, and a Physician who provide a quick snapshot of recommendations geared to clinicians working with Somali patients who may want to quit smoking.
